What is an Anterior Crossbite? – An anterior crossbite is a misalignment of the teeth, where when the jaws are closed the upper front teeth sit behind the lower front teeth. This type of malocclusion is just the opposite of normal bite, where the lower front teeth slightly overlapped by the upper front teeth.

Anterior crossbites are caused by various reasons such as:

  • Genetics
  • Abnormal tooth development
  • Deformation of the jaw such as a narrow upper jaw
  • thumb sucking or tongue thrusting

Aligner treatment for Anterior Crossbite – “i-Dent” Aligner treatment is widely preferred to treat the cases of mild to moderate anterior crossbite. “i-Dent” Aligners are a series of removable plastic trays which are custom-made as per the patient’s teeth profile. These are 3D designed and fabricated to gradually move the teeth into their ideal position.

Each set of “i-Dent” Aligner is required to be worn for two weeks, for at least 20-22 hours a day to get the optimum results, after which next in the series are to be worn. Aligners apply gentle pressure on the teeth and guide them into the required position. The severity of the case determines duration of the treatment and the number of aligners needed for the treatment of the case. Ideally the “i-Dent” Aligner treatment period ranges from 6 to 18 months.
