What is an Anterior Crossbite? – An anterior crossbite is a misalignment of the teeth, where when the jaws are closed the upper front teeth sit behind the lower front teeth. This type of malocclusion is just the opposite of normal bite, where the lower front teeth slightly overlapped by the upper front teeth.
Anterior crossbites are caused by various reasons such as:
- Genetics
- Abnormal tooth development
- Deformation of the jaw such as a narrow upper jaw
- thumb sucking or tongue thrusting
